Your Root Chakra

We are all made up of energy, sometimes we may feel off in a certain part of our body and not know why, this can be caused by blocked energy, so by opening it up to flow freely we can often feel better quite quickly.

So what are these chakra things, you might ask.

They are wheel like energetic centres that run along the trunk of your body and transmit light energy in a vortex like spinning motion. There are other chakras, however we are going to start with the basic 7. These run from the root of the spine to the crown on your head, it is useful for you to know about how to keep them open, balanced and healthy as they are connected to and influence everything in your body.

When your chakras are open and balanced, this connect and flow and you feel cheery and bright, that positive glow is on you, you are shining!

The base chakra is the wonderful solid foundation for all your other chakras.

You will find it at the base of the spine, in your perineum, it points down, therefore connecting us to mumma earth.

Just like a tall tree needs strong roots, you too need a strong solid base, you may also know this as your root chakra.

This is the most physical of the all your chakras, its main function is the survival of your physical body.

Whilst we are no longer hunter and gatherers to same degree as we once were, our basic needs are still the same, warmth, food and protection.

When your root chakra is working well, you feel safe, life is great!

You feel safe and grounded, you probably are in good physical health with lots of energy with strong bones, feet and legs.

Maybe you enjoy walking in nature, being in the garden or working outdoors.

When this chakra is spinning beautifully it is the perfect launchpad to do lots of exciting things...but when it isn't

Sometimes the root chakra can weaken from overthinking because it is safer up there than down here. You are possibly feeling sluggish and tired, maybe it is from a traumatic event in your life, whatever it is you are feeling ungrounded and just like the rug is being pulled out from underneath you. Anxiety, nightmares and sudden fear are indicators that it is unbalanced, or you may get physical symptoms like constipation, lower back pain and prostate issues.

When it is overdeveloped and spinning too fast you can be stuck in the mud, set in your ways, no flexibility, you do things the way it has been done forever and that's not going to change. Sadly this can make you vulnerable, so unexpected events such as a death can hit you harder than others.

Your root chakra is all about the colour red, wear red clothing, take beauty in the red sky, smell and pick red flowers, red lippy, fast red cars, red buildings, soon you will see red everywhere!

Eat red foods like tomatoes, capsicums, apples, strawberries, beetroot, radish, chilli, watermelon, pomegranate, red lettuce, raspberries, peaches, nectarines, blood oranges, red grapes, potatoes, yams, garlic and kumara.

Set the intention to use this wonderful colour to ground and nourish your root chakra.

Connect with your feet, treat them to a foot massage, add 3-4 drops of essential oil like wild orange with fennel or peppermint and basil to 1/4 cup epsom salts add to a big bowl of water and give your feet a well-deserved soak, then grab some unscented lotion and the balance oil and give them some love, they look after you all day.

Connect with nature, rub some balance oil on your feet and go on walks barefoot, have a picnic, do some gardening, apply some roman chamomile to your throat and chest then lean against or hug a tree, listen for the tree to impart its wisdom and notice all the inharmonious energies just drain away, isn't nature amazing, the tree is sharing its beautiful energy with you, lie on the grass and watch the clouds, clean and beautify your home and SMELL the flowers!

Harmonise with the musical note 'C' say U like ooh.

As this chakra connects to the earth use oils to support you like balance, basil, frankincense, myrrh, patchouli, cinnamon, ginger, spikenard and vetiver.

Try doing some yoga like standing forward bend or mountain pose.

Carry crystals, ruby, red jasper or garnet for strengthening, we actually have some garnet in one of our water bottles.

For an over used root chakra try jade, smoky quartz or black tourmaline.

If you are mediating or doing yoga, use some mudras, the root chakra is all about the gyan mudra, tips of thumbs and index fingers touch, keep the other finger relaxed and straight, rest hands on knees. The pressure between thumb and finger is light.

I hope you find these helpful.

Hugs Nic
